Message from the Co-Founder

Dr BR Nammalwar, MD, DCH, MNAMS, DM(Nephrology) Managing Trustee Kids Kidney Care

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”. It all began as a small talk on ‘Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease in Children’ to a small gathering by me in the auditorium of the then Mehta Children Hospital in the year 2007. My colleague Dr M.Vijayakumar honored it as an Oration. This was born of his deep respect and love for me. It was continued as Annual Dr. B.R.Nammalwar Oration along with the Annual Nephrology CME. There was a period of break during Dr M. Vijayakumar’s prolonged illness followed by his demise. Just as the entire academic program was slipping into posterity, Dr Sudha E and her team, revived the Oration and CME as NEPHKIDS. This year’s brilliant and academically fruitful product is the lineage of the seeds sown by them. “A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost”.

Dr Sudha E and her team realized that without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning. Hence the present popular and welcomed pre conference workshop “Problem-solving approach to acid base and electrolyte disorders in children” was included. The concepts in the workshop are the brain child of Dr Thangavelu S a man who is worth his weight in gold as his very name means. To honour Late Dr M. Vijayakumar who established the Dept of Pediatric Nephrology in Mehta Children Hospital, a Gold Medal Prize Examination for postgraduates in Pediatric Medicine is being conducted along with the NEPHKIDS.

These progressive and dynamic activities are guided and supported by Assoc Prof Dwarakanathan Ranganathan, Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, Herston, Australia The success is due to unflinching support, guidance of numerous other colleagues. The Organizing team is grateful to each one of them. I wish the NEPHKIDS an impressive successful future.

Message from the Organising Secretary

Dr Sudha Ekambaram, DNB Pediatrics, FPN,FISN (Singapore), Managing Trustee Kids Kidney Care

As the Organising Secretary of the NEPHKIDS it gives me immense pleasure to invite each one of you to our Academic Meet. Primary care for children with kidney disease needs to be developed both in quality and quantity. Knowledge sharing is the single most important aspect for this process. Knowledge sharing is an activity through which information, skills and expertise is exchanged between the haves and have not. The goal of this Annual event will be to create an equal platform to convey, learn, interact and exchange the known and the new aspects of Kidney disorders. We hope to partner the overall health and reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems in children. NEPHKIDS was born in 2016 and has been successfully conducted every year.

The scientific content is designed keeping in mind the needs of practising Pediatricians and trainees. I am very thankful to Dr B R Nammalwar, Dr Thangavelu and Dr Sharadha for guiding and supporting me in every aspect to organize this webinar. We are fortunate to have the fraternity of ISN and IPNA with whom we share their mission “

Consultants, Registrars and PGs of the Department of Pediatrics at Apollo Childrens are like the Banyan tree offering protection and shadow to all the specialities with motherly affection. We are blessed to have their support. My former colleagues Dr Sangeetha G, Dr Vaishnavi R and Dr K G Sunil Reddy are my supporting force then and now. The National and International faculties were keen in spreading their hard earned knowledge and transferring the light of knowledge to the future generation which is a strong reason for the success of NEPHKIDS.
